At the end of March, I (Jen) had the opportunity to go with UW-Eau Claire on a spring break project to Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe reservation in Hayward WI. This was my second opportunity to make this trip. InterVarsity has a partnership with the Youth With A Mission base located in Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe reservation and during these trips the students have the opportunity to learn and serve as we partner with YWAM.
YWAM has been serving the reservation for 28 years. While we were visiting we took a tour of the community college. We have been praying for many years for open doors to have the opportunity to see an InterVarsity chapter started. Given that InterVarsity is a student organization on campus, this door had been shut for many years as there were no student orgs on campus. That is, up until this year!
While we were on the tour we happened to run into a student that just so happened to have started the first student org on campus. When we asked him how he got started on campus, his response was perfect – ‘Let me introduce you to who you need to talk to!’ He then led us to the student org office where we were introduced to the student affairs director. What makes this encounter so much more amazing is that it turns out the director had gone to UW Eau Claire and knew Adam Christian, our InterVarsity Area Director that would be overseeing this location! With that connection made we have a next step to see another campus reached with a gospel presence!
